A security officer's job is to protect people, property, and assets by ensuring the safety and security of premises and their contents.

Security officers' responsibilities include:

• Patrolling: Patrolling buildings, grounds, and work areas to watch for unauthorized people, fires, and unusual occurrences.
• Responding to emergencies: Security officers respond to emergencies and report them immediately.
• Enforcing laws: Protecting employer's property.
• Writing reports: Write reports detailing what they observed during their shift.
• Complying with regulations: Comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
