Senior Project Engineer

The Field Project Engineer will be responsible for assisting the project manager with the planning and daily execution of the construction project. A project engineer must be flexible and able to work well in a fast-paced environment. Responsible for maintaining certain aspects of the project schedule as assigned by the project manager, by assisting with the process of submittal approvals, coordinating the timely delivery of materials, and maintaining schedules and budgets. Provide technical, administrative, and management support with primary responsibility for maintaining record documentation and managing all aspects of the construction process. This is a pivotal position that requires a person with a highly organized mind and the endurance required of the construction industry.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists project management by proactively managing the project budget by controlling expenses, administering owner and subcontractor billings, identifying work not covered by subcontractor's scope of work/budget and ensuring the success of office support functions related to the overall cost and scheduled completion.
  • Responsible for proactive administration of reviewing and processing all submittal data and shop drawings to ensure project schedules are expedited and materials are delivered on time.
  • Conducts pre-construction meetings with subcontractors, assisted by the project manager/superintendent.
  • Prepare As-Built drawings and specifications, Keep up-to-date.
  • Serves as the onsite quality manager for assigned trades by verifying subcontractor deliveries meet approved submittal requirements.
  • Attends and participates in meetings with architect/engineer and owner representatives, provides information and assists the project manager in the preparation of progress reports/meeting minutes.
  • Distributes proposal change documents to subcontractors/suppliers and assists in collecting pricing and/or prepares change proposal requests for internal pricing review.
  • Builds effective relationships with customers, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meets or exceeds the customer's expectations.
  • Supervises and enlists support and provides diverse construction and commissioning phase support to the project team working on-site.
  • Understand and support jobsite safety requirements.

Job Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Construction Management, Project Management or Engineering. Entry level graduate or 2 to 4 years of progressive construction related trade experience.
  • Acts in a manner of integrity that demonstrates support for the company's values and the employees, while maintaining constant focus on meeting/exceeding internal and external customer expectations.
  • Ability to organize people, tools, and equipment and plan/manage multiple activities to accomplish desired results.
  • Strong decision-making ability under tight deadlines, sometimes with incomplete information.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
  • Communication, project management, judgment, initiative, time management, project organization, attention to detail, flexibility, and problem solving are necessary skills for this position.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work in a number of diverse locations is pertinent, as work locations may change daily.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Works both indoors and outdoors.
  • Frequently performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as standing, lifting, walking, stooping, bending, reaching and handling of materials, equipment and tools.
  • Lifts, pushes, pulls, and carries heavy objects, machinery and tools.
  • Works around vehicles and machinery with moving parts.
  • May be exposed to harsh weather conditions.
  • May be exposed to loud noise.
