The Senior Production Technician assists with coordinating the daily activities of the Production Technician team, ensuring the efficient and safe manufacture of quality products. This role acts as a "player-coach," performing advanced technical duties while also providing guidance, training, and workflow management to the team. The Senior serves as the primary point of contact for the team, resolving immediate issues and elevating complex problems or resource needs to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager to coordinate the daily activities of the Production Technician team, including assigning tasks, coordinating workflow, and ensuring production priorities are met.
  • Act as the key communication link between the Production Technicians and the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, reporting on team progress, challenges, and resource needs.
  • Elevate any behavioral issues to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Human Resources department, or staffing agency.
  • Train, mentor, and develop Production Technicians to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for Production Technicians regarding troubleshooting and repair of production fixtures, equipment, and assemblies. Elevate complex troubleshooting to the Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and coordinating, with management oversight, enhancements for efficiency, throughput, cost reduction, and quality.
  • Proactively identify and resolve production issues, implementing, with management oversight, root cause solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Champion and enforce safety protocols within the team; identify and suggest improvements to the overall safety program.
  • When not engaged in senior duties, supplement on production lines and in facility tasks to support the team and meet production goals.
  • Assist with basic facility maintenance as needed and act as primary point of contact for the coordination of outside maintenance contractors/service providers.
  • Ability to use common warehouse maintenance equipment and tools. This includes hand tools, power tools, meters and measurement instruments, scissor lift, ladders, and general powered maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to be on-call for afterhours emergencies.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse and manufacturing environment (temperature changes, dust, equipment, etc.).
  • Ability to sit, bend and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree from a recognized training facility or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven experience in a manufacturing environment, with 1-3 years of demonstrated mentorship capabilities.
  • Ability to change direction and handle multiple responsibilities and tasks in a fast-paced setting.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to coach and mentor different personalities in an effective fashion.
  • High-level mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively delegate tasks, provide constructive feedback, and report to management.
  • Must have the mindset to find the true root cause of a problem vs. applying a quick "Band-Aid" fix.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision and capable of self-checking for completeness and accuracy of work produced.
  • Must be a dynamic, self-starter with a continual improvement mindset.
  • Experience with a high-volume assembly environment is highly preferred.
