Job DescriptionThe Mortgage Loan Officer proactively solicits prospective mortgage clients and new members for Virginia Credit Union (VACU). The role involves assisting VACU members and prospective members in obtaining first mortgage loans including FHA, USDA‑RD, VA, and VHDA. The officer develops and maintains business relationships with VACU partners, builders, and realtors, obtains all pertinent documents, and handles the application from initial receipt through loan approval/closing in a timely manner while exemplifying excellent member service.Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide quality member service to meet the standards set by Mortgage Lending management and the Member Experience team.Interview members and prospective members for first mortgage loans (purchase and refinance), assist them in understanding the home‑ownership process and mortgage products, and present options that balance leverage and affordability.Consistently communicate members' application status, interest rates, and any required documentation, ensuring rates are locked in accordance with VACU policies.Conduct preliminary underwriting reviews to assess secondary‑market standards or VACU guidelines and submit complete applications to underwriting using technology.Obtain and verify supporting documentation—employment history, deposit information, and other loan‑related documents—to enable accurate and timely processing.Communicate with mortgage lending management regarding file status and any loan issues or concerns.Promote VACU mortgage products and realty services through finance seminars and cross‑promotion of other VACU financial services such as consumer lending, investment services, property and casualty insurance, title and settlement services.Assist in developing marketing strategies to deepen mortgage relationships and opportunities with members, prospective members, VACU partners, builders, and realtors.Maintain excellent working relationships with Sales, Processing, Underwriting, and Closing team members.Receive full documentation for all loan products (purchase and refinance), specializing in conventional and government (FHA, VA, USDA Rural Development) mortgages.Review, calculate, and prepare loan documentation (income statements, bank statements, credit reports, employment history, underwriting reports, reserves, etc.) necessary for underwriting.Maintain an excellent understanding of investor and VACU requirements for a variety of loan products and state‑specific closing regulations to ensure timely closings.For pre‑qualified loans, prepare files for underwriting and closing to meet secondary‑market standards or VACU guidelines.Update mortgage loan origination systems promptly.Assist with scheduling residential loan closings.Comply with Regulations B, C, X and Z and with FACT and FDPA (Flood) for required disclosures.Ensure data integrity and accuracy of all loans, as measured by audit exception metrics.Follow all published enterprise‑level policies and procedures, including Risk Management policies.Complete all required ongoing enterprise training (BSA, OFAC, Information Security, etc.).Report all Risk Management Policy violations according to policy.Assist in testing mortgage loan origination system new products, programs, releases, and upgrades.Assist management in investigating audit exceptions and formulating responses.Assist Post‑Closing in obtaining outstanding documentation for all closed mortgage loans.Contribute to team and departmental goals.Other duties may be required and assigned.Prerequisites for PositionEducationHigh School Graduate; College graduate preferred, but not required.Work ExperienceSignificant conventional and government loan experience required.Excellent knowledge of mortgage documentation and federal, state, and local real‑estate regulations required.Prior experience building dealer/realtor relationships and marketing mortgage products preferred.Retail and branch banking experience preferred.Experience using the EMPOWER automated underwriting system a plus.Desirable TraitsExcellent oral and written communication skills.Strong customer service and sales ability demonstrated by monthly sales volume of $1 million of funded loans per month.Strong problem‑solving and organizational skills.Ability to analyze financial information.Team player.Computer experience required.CommentsOvertime and/or Saturday hours may be required.NMLSMust maintain active registration with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS).Physical RequirementsThe job requires the ability to sit for long periods of time.The job requires infrequent lifting or carrying of objects up to 10 pounds.#J-18808-Ljbffr
